Leg 11/2027
28 Aug – 6 Sept Inverness (Caledonian Canal) to Bangor/Belfast/N.Ireland, 200 nm
This will be the leg of tranquility in Canal and the thrill of the Hebrides in the west. It has it all!

This leg starts with the calm and charming Caledonian Canal, cutting through the heart of the Highlands.

With its 29 locks and four lakes, of which Loch Ness is the biggest and most famous one, this will be a most relaxing cruise through Scotland.

We will enjoy the beautiful scenery, cozy pubs and the tranquil pace of the canal, surrounded by high mountains looking down onto us.

This is as close as we will get to Nessie, while sailing the deep lake of Loch Ness cutting through the Highlands of Scotland.
The entire canal is so peaceful. You can read about it in my first book The Missing Centimeter here (“Sabbatical auf See” in German). Chapter 6 – 9 are about this leg 11-2027 including the canal and then the opening of the Hebrides when leaving the shelter of the canal behind on the western exit. We sailed first time over 20 years earlier when my children were 9 and 11 years old and the atmosphere is still the same!
Possibly we have time for an excursion to Tobermory? They have one of the best fish restaurants on mainland Britain there (that’s the price they won at Café Fish).
Café Fish! The only thing frozen in this restaurant is the fisherman, they claim.
From Tobermory we have all options, depending on how far we wish to sail and what we wish to experience. We can pass by the tiny Island of Staffa, where Mendelsohn got inspired to the Hebrides Symphony, make landfall on Iona with the very famous monastery and/or then sail to the Mecca of whiskies on the islands of Jura and Islay.

Passing the dramatic scenery with Staffa to the right.

Tasting the Mesh to be come whisky.
At some point in time we sail across to Ireland and make landfall either on the island of Rathlin Island or the little town called Bellycastle.
Once in Northern Ireland we will sail down the coast to Bangor outside Belfast, where our Leg 11-2027 will end.
Price: EUR 3995 per person including all food consumed onboard, harbour fees, diesel etc plus visits to pubs and distilleries. This price does also include the canal fee.
