Leg 2/2027

28 Apr – 5 May Dublin/Irland – Troon/Glasgow/Scotland, 200 nm

In just one week, we will leave the Republic of Ireland, sail to Northern Ireland and then cross over to Scotland. The flair of the Celtic culture with a touch of Viking blood is omnipresent on this leg. It’s one of the more challenging when it comes to weather and tides, but also one of the more rewarding ones! Real adventure under controlled conditions!

This scenic leg getting the best out of Ireland and Scotland, will be loaded with tidal challenges. It’s for sure sailing in the wakes of the vikings (photo below from Ardglass).

Howth outside Dublin

We will start from Dublin, most probably in Howth, which is very close to the airport there. Why not come a day early, stay in a hotel and spend an evening at the Templebar before embarking, by the way?

From Dublin we will set of and, tides, swell and wind permitting, might attempt to enter Strangford Lough. The entrance (and especially the exit) can be very challenging with huge breaking waves due to significant current against wind and swell. Once inside, you are rewarded by the biggest tranquility imaginable.

Navigating the fairway in these waters can look very daunting at low water:

Via Bangor we continue to Rathlin Island, the last outpost of norther Ireland.

From here, we set over to Scotland and enjoy more strong tides and Scottish atmosphere – now exchanging Guinness with Whisky!

Mull of Kintyre has a very special history, not the least when you think of the song with the same name. Its exposed position as one of the most dangerous capes to round from the rough Hebrides and Northern Ireland to the relative calmness of the Firth of Clyde with its capitol of Glasgow.

Once inside the Firth of Clyde not only Springbanks and Arran Distilleres are waiting but also the relative shelter behind the Mull of Kintyre. This is where a lot of sailing takes place in Scotland!

The destination will be one of the marinas outside Glasgow, most probably Troon. This allows for an easy flight back home from Glasgow.

Price: EUR 2.720 per person including all food consumed onboard, harbour fees, diesel etc plus visits to pubs and distilleries
