Marina Coruna
There are not many yards where fine boats are treated inside and are refitted to the highest of standards. After Carl Adams became sick and our beloved Adams Boat Care was ceased, many Reginasailing Friends owning boats have now moved to La Coruña in Spain, instead, or have brought their boats elsewhere. Obviously, there are many good yards in Europe and some are in northern Germany, others in The Netherlands and quite a few keep returning to the north-west coast of Spain. But it is sad that Adams Boat Care is no longer, especially since it was such a wonderful story that once began with Regina Laska as Adams Boat Care’s first baby back in 2012.
Obviously nothing can compare to the boat-building Mecca of Orust in Sweden where they are so specialised to build and maintain the finest of yachts, specialising in outstanding wood-work. So many yards have built the famous Orust yachts for over a hundred years: Najad, Malö, Vindö, Regina af Vindö, Sweden Yachts, NorthWest, CR-Yachts and, of course, the crown being Hallberg-Rassy being the most stable yard which never has been in financial trouble, even through the hardest of times during the crises of 1990’s, 2000’s and lately in 2012/13. And still today, there are dozens of refit yards on this tiny islands of Orust in Sweden. But enough of nostalgia…. I am now very happy to have Regina Laska in Spain for various reasons.
I am glad to say that Marina Coruna also gives an outstanding quality when taking care of these fine yachts and they have become a sort of Hallberg-Rassy refit center.

h2a]The Location [/h2a]
Why do I keep returning to Marina Coruna Varadeo each year? After all, it’s situated in the very far North-western corner of Spain, not far from Cape Finisterre, meaning the end of the world!
But looking from a cruising perspective, it’s not that far at all from a huge variety of completely different cruising grounds. Also, the season is quite long form April to October. If you wish to sail longer, however, sailing down to Algarve is not far away.
It’s ideally placed for a variety of cruising areas. First of all, you can easily sail north to the English Channel (3 days sail) or even further to Ireland and Scotland. If you don’t wish to stretch it so much, there is the beautiful south coast of Bretagne just 2 nights away, where you can spend most of your summer.
Then, new to me, was exploring the north coast of Spain in 2024 – all the way to the French border in the Basque country close to the Pyrenees. It’s like sailing in the mountains and the food is fantastic!
Sailing south following the Galician coast, you soon reach Portugal including the Algarve not too far away with excellent sailing – even during winter.
For the bigger adventures, the Atlantic islands Madeira and Azores are not that far away, so we will sail there in 2025 again. And for the shorter holiday your have the entire beauties of the Galician coast just to the south. For a short week-end cruise, you have the Rías around La Coruña just outside the marina pier.
Orcas? Really no problem if you avoid them time-wise and follow their pattern, comply with some safety rules and then have some last-resort emergency measures ready.

The Yard
Secondly, and maybe the major reason why I keep returning to Marina Coruña are the people at the yard! These wonderful people keep Regina Laska as their dearest boat, I feel, and treat this classic yacht as their flagship!
Let me introduce the team to you by means of the below photobook I made when I last left Regina Laska in their good hands for the winter refit of 2024-25.
Click on the little dotted square in the right top corner inside the frame for full view of the photo book I made for Marina Coruña Varadero:
Here is also a short video when Regina Laska was demasted and transported into the shed for the winter of 2024/25.
The Work
In La Coruña they have experts for doing very good jobs, from electrical and electronic tasks to GRP-work such as applying copper coat. Since I came in 2019, they have gradually become experts in HR boats and know them, as well as their owners, better and better.
Check out what I had done in recent years by clicking on the annual refit page.
The Winter Club
So many Reginasailing friends have decided to follow the example and bring their boats to Marina Coruna so we hare having a little Reginasailing Winter club, officially being launched during the upcoming winter 0f 2025/26. If all goes to plan there will be a HR34, HR340, Sirius35, HR46, HR53 and possibly some more who haven’t decided, yet.

If you are interested in leaving your boat in Marina Coruna as well and joining the party, now is the time to book a place!
