Leg 2/2021
24 June – 8 July Malga/Spain to Portosin/Galicia/Spain.
This leg leaves us with a great flexibility on how to get from the UK to Spain. Following my guests’ request, this will be a two-week leg giving us ample time to sail a course that feels right for the current weather pattern. We thus could sail south to the Channel Islands and follow the north coast of Bretagne or, alternatively, sail along Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly and jump the English Channel on its western edge to Bretagne.
For sure, this will both be a spectacular and highly interesting leg, boosting your coastal sailing experience. The crown on the leg will then be the crossing the Bay of Biscay from Bretagne to Galicia which, per se, is a huge adventure!
So this leg has it all for the more experienced sailor who wishes to mix adventure with wonderful scenery!
The feeling of sailing to unknown harbours in a bit more challenging weather or at night is done deliberately. The goal is to combine a bit more challenging sailing and navigating in the English Channel while reaching pleasant destinations.
Dartmouth or possibly Falmouth are the goals, before we continue to Bretagne.
It’s a unique opportunity to do this kind of sail training on a fine Hallberg-Rassy 46, and we will jointly take care of our fine yacht and learn how to handle a 20 tonnes boat under all sorts of conditions.
It will help a lot if you first join the theory course on Malta. You will become well prepared in all the theoretical subjects. We can thus concentrate on the practical side of seamanship and manoeuvres. If you have no possibility to join the theory course, should, at least, work through the excellent book by my friend Tom Cunliffe: The Complete Day Skipper or The Complete Yachtmaster or take an online course through Skippers Online.
