Leg 5/2025

10 – 17 June    Gourmet & Huge Tides: Morlaix/France rounding Bretagne via Ushant to Brest/France.

.

Challenge yourself with one of the highest tidal ranges in the world and currents that can outperform the yacht.

Find your way through drying rivers sailing up to fantastic villages and towns with outstanding restaurants!

We will start in the middle of Bretagne, Morlaix, where the TGV train stops on its way from Paris to Brest. From here, we can only exit when the tide allows us to, so possibly not the first day…. Tides need to be high enough for us to exit the otherwise completely dry river, see below!

This is the way out from Morlaix. Not quite possible at low water….

Morlaix with the train bridge in the background. Over this bridge you will take the TGV train from Paris and then we meet in the marina to calculate when we can leave…

Investigating the river bed before exiting might be a good (and frightening) exercise….

We will then use a nice weather window to round the thrilling western end of Bretagne, possibly making landfall on Ushant weather permitting.

If we arrive a bit early, we will explore the fantastic cruising ground around Brest including Camaret-sur-Mer.

Anchoring and harbours will be mixed to our liking.

We will use the secret anchorages of Brittany, using the IMRAY book with the same title and have ample time for this coast alone. Since the coast can be rough, spending time in the villages or in restaurants is the second aim of this leg, continuing only in good weather.

Some of the books and charts we will use along this coastline.

Cidre drank out of these cups is the typical drink in a Bretagne Creperie!
